What does humanity’s history with “colonization” teach us about our future in space exploration? How can we be good planetary stewards for Earth, as well as other planets we might visit. The Astrobiology Initiative will sponsor and engage in projects designed to develop an ethical framework for planetary stewardship and space exploration. Our Initiative will work closely with UC Santa Cruz Center for Public Philosophy which excels at unpacking and sparking discussion on humankind’s most difficult questions.
In support of this commitment to the ethics of our science we have funded an Astrobiology Humanities Graduate Student Researcher to explore such ethical questions.
